An 18th Century Georgian Silhouette Of William Ousell Holgate. It appears to have been made to mark his matriculation or graduation as a 'gentleman commoner' (i.e. a student who paid his own fees) from Lincoln College Oxford. I have done some research and found his matching matriculation record on the Oxford student rolls. The silhouette looks to still be in its original frame but the frame currently has no paper backing. The silhouette is inscribed on the reverse as follows: Wm Ousell Holgate Born Thornton Hall, Lincs c 1797 d 1833 Gentleman commoner Lincoln College Oxford Matric Dec 13th 1816
