Heft Jugendherberge im Ausland 1947, Jugendherbergenverein
This 50-page 'Youth Hostelling Abroad' handbook is fascinating because it was published in 1947, just 18 months after the end of WWII. And it shows the youth hostels available to European travellers in many countries that had only recently lived under the shadow of war, including Belgium, France, Holland, Czechoslovakia. Under Germany the guide states that "No tourist travel of any kind to Germany is permitted at present". The handbook was published by The Youth Hostels Association and cost one shilling. There pencil and pen marks on a couple of pages but, apart from that it is in good condition considering its age and the fact that it has probably done some travelling. The handbook weights 44g and measures 18.5cm x 12.5cm. It's less than 0.5cm thick.
