'A Summer in Skye' Alexander Smith, illus 1983 pb Nachdruck von 1865 Reiseklassiker
First published in 1865, 'A Summer in Skye' is the account by poet and essayist Alexander Smith (1829–1867) of his decision to leave behind the noise and bustle of Edinburgh and spend six idyllic weeks over the summer of 1864 in the peace of his wife Flora's native island of Skye. The book became Smith's greatest success, and was reprinted several times over the next 40 or 50 years, though Smith himself only outlived its initial publication by just over a year. This new edition, edited and introduced by William F Laughton, reproduces some of the illustrations by John Blair from the original book, together with other reproductions of mid 19th-century Scottish views and landmarks.
