...... When we were trying to figure out who this Marble Bust depicted we were a bit confused, as there are multiple titles online. We finally concluded that this marble bust depicts Julius Caesar's adopted heir, Gaius Octavius, who later became the first Roman emperor, Caesar Augustus and was known as “Young Caesar.” This Victorian grand-tour marble bust is after the original which was hand carved by the 18th-century Italian sculptor Antonio Canova (1757-1822). Measuring 12” tall by 7 ½” shoulder to shoulder by 5" deep, this Victorian Bust is in very good original condition. There is a darkened matrix line to the right shoulder, and some roughness to the edges and tip of his nose. There are no other problems or any restorations, plus we have listed this antique Victorian Marble Bust of Young Caesar without any reserve.
