Unlike the Tornado which has replaced it, the Vulcan was a wholly British aircraft designed and built by Avro, and operated only by the Royal Air Force. Nevertheless, this magnificent delta-winged bomber did not fly in anger until 1 May 1982 when Vulcan B.2 XM607 dropped a stick of 21 conventional 1,000lb bombs on Port Stanley airfield.
