Medardo Rosso (Turin 1858, Milan 1928) was an important sculptor among the leading proponents of modern sculpture. He came into contact with the Impressionists and was greatly admired by the Futurists. His sculpture was born in the naturalist sphere, but underwent radical trasphormations after the artist became acquainted with the work of Auguste Rodin and Impressionists in Paris in 1889. One of his favourite subjects was the children, whose purity and innocence he loved.
