Cabool von Sir Alexander Burnes. 1842, 1. Auflage. 12 Teller Afghanistan
Published in London in 1842, this is a first edition account of gifted linguist and East India Company officer Alexander Burnes' second mission to Kabul. The aim of the mission which ultimately failed, was to forge an alliance between Britain and Dost Mohammed Khan and garner British support for his claim as ruler of Afghanistan. Evocatively illustrated, the text describes in great detail, Afghan society and culture, the nature of its commerce and many other aspects of life in the region. Attractively bound in near-contemporary half calf with marble paper sides and simple gold tooling on the spine.
