Third edition of Conrad Gesner's "Bibliotheca universalis" (Zürich, first published in 1545), described as "one of the epochal works in the annals of bibliography: the first 'universal' bibliography, that is, an international bibliography of authors who wrote in the learned languages, alphabetically arranged by their first names in accordance with medieval usage" (Breslauer & Folter 14). This is a revised and greatly enlarged edition of Gesner's seminal bibliography work.
