First printing of the first edition of the first Moomin book to be translated into English (Tove Jansson's "Trollkarlens hatt", in translation by Elizabeth Portch), published by Ernest Benn Limited in 1950. (The same translation was published in the US in 1952 as "The Happy Moomins".) Very scarce, even more so with the dust jacket intact, yet even more so complete with the folding letter/map ("Dear English Child", signed "Moominmamma") as well as the Snork Maiden cut-out still in place, all of which Jansson created especially for this edition. Rarely on the market.
