The G-Freq is a passive filter, so requires no batteries but does require both it’s input and output to have powered output. For example, when using a sound recorder to conduct a burst EVP session, the G-Freq can be plugged inline between the sound recorder playing the EVP and a powered speaker used to listen to it.
