Jean-Pierre Alaux was the son of François Alaux and the great-great-grandson of Jean-Paul Alaux. From 1943 to 1949, he studied under Jean Dupas at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1973, he was awarded the Puvis de Chavannes prize from Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
