New out in 2010 this is the only book on Lancaster's Roman cemeteries and brings together reports of digs and intelligent comment on Roman Lancaster in one handy volume. A4 soft back, 127 pages, mixture of black and white and colour illustration. The editors are classicist Prof. D. Shotter, formerly of Lancaster Univeristy, and Peter Iles, Lancashire's County Archaeologist, but significant elements are also authored by the archaeologists of the Oxford North unit (formerly Lancaster), and Manchester. Contains extensive detail on cremation urns, sites, stratigraphy, inscriptions, Roman funery rites, and most spectacular of all the memorial to Insus the auxiliary cavalryman first unearthed by the Manchester unit in November 2005, and now at Lancaster City Museum.
