Von Mackail, J. W. Mackail, J. W. In revising them for publication, I have thought it best not to alter their form very materially in this respect; and I hope that the amount of repetition still left will not be found excessive, while it may serve to emphasise more effectively the central ideas by which I have been zuided throughout, particularly as regards the poetical value of the Greek poets, and the way in which Greek poetry, as poetry, may best be read so as to disengage its living virtue.
