Leaflet slightly bumped at the lower edge in the fold, art print very good. Text in Japanese and English. - Oban Nishikie - (Important Art Object) Utamaro II, the designer of this print, was a pupil of the illustrious Utamaro I. His family name was also Kitagawa, and he was commonly called Tetsugoro. The studio names he used included Riteitei Kocho and Setcho. From 1824 he began to use the pen name Koikawa Harumachi for his writings and Baigado for his paintings. Legend says that he married the widow of his teacher, Utamaro I. In this print, the two courtesans are depicted with oval faces, with their hair rounded out at the sides and done in large chignons, which was the contemporary fashion of the early Bunka era (1804-1818).
