Medieval Islamic Compound Vessels. Rosen-Ayalon, Myriam:

12,90 €

Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Dr. Wolfram Kleiss, langjährigem Leiter der Außenstelle Teheran des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts. Einband leicht berieben. - Three fragments of pottery found at Ramla, all attributed to the 8th or early 9th century A.D., provide the basis for the study of a special kind of vessel known in Islamic times as "condiment-dish". Two major groups of such dishes can be distinguished. The first fragment is from a vessel originally made of seven cups, of which only three survive. It has a yellow glaze with some dripped ornamentation. This type of vessel seems to be well represented in Iran and Mesopotamia, basically using the unit of the "cup", interpreted in various combinations.
