Published in Paris circa 1867, this portfolio of loose plates illustrates painted interior wall, ceiling and frieze designs by Hippolyte Gruz. Gruz was a noted Parisian painter and decorator responsible for the interiors of many of Paris’ most fashionable hotels in the mid-19th century. The 60 plates in this portfolio comprise a stunning collection of beautifully reproduced designs. 45 of the plates are full colour chromolithographs, many heightened with gold. The remainder are coloured lithographs. This collection of loose plates is housed in its original portfolio with a printed front cover and its 3 original ties but with a new cloth spine.
