A very good copy of this literary anthology, this issue providing the true first edition of George Orwell’s Shooting an Elephant, and includes first appearances of several works by writers including V. S. Pritchett, Vassili Grossman, W. H. Auden, Rex Warner and many others. Cloth a little rubbed at corners and marked at spine but generally clean. The binding tight and square, the fore edge with one or two small stains. Internally mostly excellent, ink ownership inscription of a G. Lewis with some light spotting to endpapers and prelims, else generally excellent. Uncommon.
