Leaflet slightly bumped at the lower edge in the fold, art print very good. Text in Japanese and English. - Hosoban Nishikie - (Important Art Object) This print dates stylistically to the Meiwa era (1764-1771) and is typical of Buncho's finest work. According to Teruji Yoshida, the artist has depicted Onoe Matsusuke as Tsutaya Omatsu in Mutsu Chidori Meika no Yumitori (The Archer of the Famous Poems on the Northern Plover), staged at the Morita-za in November, 1768. Kabuki Nempyo (Kabuki Yearbook) records that Matsusuke played in the role of Omatsu of the Tsutaya, a frivolous woman, and en-acted a scene standing in a rush-roofed boat at Ikkoku Bridge.
