Piet Mondriaan. Welsh, Robert P.:
Gutes Ex. mit leichten Gebrauchsspuren. / Good copy with small signs of wear. - With a focus on Mondriaan's pre-modernist phase of naturalistic paintings. / By the 1890's, when Piet Mondriaan received his formal education as an artist and commenced the development of a personal style, Dutch art was experiencing a period of revival which was widely acknowledged both in the Netherlands and abroad as a worthy alternative to what was sometimes thought to be the expressive excesses of French Impressionism. Indeed, there is no reason to doubt that the young Mondriaan chose consciously to work within the tradition of Hague school painting since this general loyalty was maintained until 1908 and involved several hundreds of paintings, watercolours and drawings executed in a naturalistic mode.
