Perched on this symbol of masculinity is a fragile-appearing courtesan robed in sensuously colorful garments. An air of refinement is maintained by the use of a pale grey ground and classical Japanese cloud conventions, all encouraging the viewers imagination to roam between the ancient and the contemporary, and between the realms of the spirit and the flesh.
