Description: The prints from this set were originally ascribed to Hans Bol; they are now considered to be by an anonymous artist after his designs. Ref: Hollstein R. 11. Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Hans Bol '. Hans Bol (Mechelen 1534-Amsterdam 1593) was a Flemish painter in the Northern Mannerist style. His early training was taken with his uncles who were also painters. He was then apprenticed to a watercolorist and tempera painter. Bol created numerous watercolours, as well as miniatures on vellum of his paintings (as his works were so often reproduced).
