The Courtesan Hinazuru of the Choji-ya. [Folding cardboard with art print of Jap

18,00 €

Leaflet slightly bumped at the lower edge in the fold, art print very good. Text in Japanese and English. - Oban Nishikie - (Important Art Object) This print is one of a series entitled "Yukun Waka Sanjin" (Three Courtesan Goddesses of Waka Poetry) and is a parody on three famous medieval poets who became the patron deities of the Sumiyoshi, Tamatsushima, and Hitomaro shrines. One other print, portraying Hanaogi, is known. Eishd's half-length portraits show a strong influence of Utamaro, the dominant painter of beautiful women in the 1790's. But in his full-length portraits, such as this print of Hinazuru, Eisho followed more the style of his teacher Chobunsai Eishi. The faces of the women depicted in full length lack that coquettish charm of expression found in the half-length portraits.
