The English Church in the Sixteenth Century. Thompson, Craig R.:
From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Zustand: Leicht verblichener Einbandrücken. Ansonsten im sehr guten Zustand. / Condition: Slightly faded spine of the cover. Otherwise in very good condition. - Content: RELIGION, Queen Elizabeth told Parliament in 1585, is the ground on which all other matters ought to take root. The Christian religion, for most of its adherents at least, implies a Church. As an institution, the Church in England in Tudor times was, as it had always been, the corporate expression of the spiritual life of Englishmen. In another sense it could be regarded as a department of State, subject to control by government even though administered by its own spiritual officers.
