The story is set during World War I and echoes the mythmaking and propaganda used during the War. The preacher's point of view is very much in line with the propaganda of the time talking of the glory of God and the necessity of sacrifice. No dust jacket. Black boards with gilt titles and decoration are in good/acceptable condition although illustration to front has lost its gilt. Splitting to paper join with front board as per photo. Previous owner's name and date in pencil on first cover page. Further pencil note and date on second cover page. Some foxing to early pages but overall clean and unmarked.
