These paintings are inspired by ancient Roman frescoes discovered in Pompeii and Herculaneum, which were buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. These paintings specifically mimic the style seen in the Villa of Cicero and the House of Siricus, likely drawing inspiration from engravings published in "Le Antichità di Ercolano Esposte" between 1757 and 1792.
