Hardback book in dustwrapper "Tobacco Coast: a Maritime History of Chesapeake Bay in the Colonial Era" by Arthur Pierce Middleton, published by Mariners Museum in 1953. Some creasing and a few small tears to edges, and wear to edges of spine, of unclipped dustwrapper, also some fading to spine and front panel of same. Minor bumping to spine ends and corners of brown boards, slight yellowing to outer pages, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book. Deals largely with the tobacco trade in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries out of the Chesapeake Bay colonies (Virginia and Maryland); but also looks at the Slave trade, south European wine trade, smuggling, ferries and pilots, and more. 482pp, 28 b&w illustrations.
