The No. 5 1/2 Jack Plane is considered the 'jack of all trades' and the big brother to the No.5. Also used for edge preparation in readiness for perfecting by longer No.6 and No.7 planes. Can be set up with a slightly cambered blade for wide shallow shavings, used for levelling assembled components or door fitting, it also makes a good end-grain shooting plane with a straight blade.
