Thackeray's writing career began with a series of satirical sketches now usually known asThe Yellowplush Papers, which appeared inFraser's Magazine beginning in 1837. The book is in good, neat condition for its age, internally neat and clean (crease to page 53), with wear to the leather spine (crack along the hinge of the front board, which is fragile but still secure) and corners, a previous owner’s signature dated 1896 at the front, a little light foxing near the covers and no other ink or pencil markings in the book, and staining to the side rims, mostly affecting the edge of the frontispiece.
