At the outburst of the war in Auguste 1914, he fought throughout in ww1, without being made prisoner. This pattern has been used by the French army in WW1 (pattern 1881). It's relatively difficult to find the soldier's record since a lot of them got burnt in the archives during WW2 bombings.
