Yamanaka Heikuro and Ichikawa Danjuro. [Folding cardboard with art print of Japa
Leaflet slightly bumped at the lower edge in the fold, art print very good. Text in Japanese and English. - Hand-colored Hosoban Sumizurie - (Important Art Object) Danjuro II was the outstanding player of tachiyaku, or male lead roles, in early 18th-century Edo Kabuki and was especially talented at aragoto, or heroic roles. Heikuro had a high reputation as a depicter of villains. The two actors frequently appeared together in plays at the Nakamura-za until Heikuro's death in 1724; thus it is difficult, in view of the lack of definite evidence, to ascribe to this print a definite date and play.
